Join us at Goto 10 to learn what version control means, how to use Git, and what the concepts behind it are so that you can start using it for your own projects. This workshop is for complete beginners and underrepresented groups in tech, specifically for people who identify as women. A note about gender: trans-women are women. Non-binary folks are welcome with open arms! Thanks for being cool.
As a developer, version control and Git is one of the tools we use the most! Join us to learn what version control means, how to use Git, and what the concepts behind it are so that you can start using it for your own projects. You can also ask us about our experiences in the field and how we use Git for our work.
Git gives us a lot of freedom and benefits like the possibilities to:
- experiment and then revert back to a working version of my code
- see how the code grew into its current form
- create different options for how to continue and be able to compare
- roll back time and start again
But Git is not only useful for code! If you have any kind of text documents (code is text) that you would like to version, you could also use Git and get the same benefits. It could for example be used for:
- papers or research
14:00 Intro: Create local Git repository
15:25 Create a repository on Github
17:00 End of session
The event is organized and held by a group of women developers who came together to share knowledge and open a channel for people interested in tech to connect.
No previous Git or programming knowledge is needed.
BYOL! Bring your own laptops and if possible install Git: https://git-scm.com/downloads
