FooCoding Newcomers is a community led course in software development. The six month program gives people the skills they need to work as a full stack developer in Sweden. Join us at Goto 10.
Our ambition is to integrate people struggling to find work in Sweden into the world of tech. Professional programmers volunteer to teach the course. These mentors share their knowledge and experience with the students.
The class meets every Sunday from 11:30 to 15:30 at Foo Café Stockholm (Hammarby Kaj 10D). During the week students are expected to complete 20 hours of homework. Mentors are available to answer students questions during the week in our Slack forum. The course is completely free. Lunch is provided and train tickets to and from the venue can be reimbursed.
The Foo Café Foundation works with graduates to connect them to our network of company partners. We arrange meetings between students and companies looking to hire fullstack developers.
Foo Café collaborated with Hack Your Future in the September 2017 to start a course in Malmö. Since then we’ve supported five classes of students and connected many graduates to jobs. The success of the program has made us want to open it up to more than refugees. We believe there are other groups who could benefit from the support of a mentor coding program. It’s for this reason that we’re creating the independent program FooCoding. Managed by the Foo Café Foundation we hope to see the program grow to include young adults and other groups struggling to find employment.
DO YOU WANT TO BE OUR NEXT STUDENT?
Stockholm’s first FooCoding Course will begin April 14th. If you don’t have a a job in Sweden and want to learn to code, please apply! You can send your application to Elena Mitchell via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Include your name, phone number and educational background. Please also include a short description of why you’d like to commit to the 6 month FooCoding Course. You don’t need to have a technical background - what matters for us is that you have the grit to study hard, have good knowledge of the English language and a logical mindset.
